The poet chose the ear as the judge. Give its reason.

Ans:- In the court to deliver a fair judgement based on the arguments, the judge must carefully listen to all the information and evidence presented before him or her. So listening carefully is the best quality for a judge. Ear has the ability to listen carefully. So the poet chose the ear as the judge.

A3. Personal Response.

Name the any four sensory organs and provide phrases/idioms/proverbs related to them

Ans:-

State whether the following statements are true or false. Correct the false statements.

Nose cannot use the spectacles. The spectacle uses the Nose to hold them in place.

The verdict asked the eyes to keep shut wearing spectacles.

A2. Interpretation.

‘That the spectacles plainly were made for the Nose, and the Nose was as plainly intended for them.’

Ans:- That the spectacles plainly were made for the Nose and the Nose was as plainly intended for them. This is the argument of the lawyer Tongue. He said with a lot of confidence that if Nose was not there on the face, wearing the spectacles would have been impossible. So he concluded that the spectacles and the Nose were made for each other.

 A3. Personal Response.

Give your opinion about the dispute of nose and eyes.

Ans:- I don't think the dispute of nose and eyes is so good. Both are essential and important organs of our body. Both support each other. Spectacle is specially made for eyes. It is placed at the suitable place because of the nose. Their dispute is funny.

A4. Poetic Device.

Name and explain the figures of speech used in the following sentences.

Answer:

1) Theme of the poem: It is a funny poem and a satire on the human behaviour as well as the proceedings of the court. The court room drama is a satire on the judiciary system. It also mocks at the stone blind justice in a humorous manner emphasizing upon the lack of empathy and common sense.

2) Poetic devices used in the poem: The poem has rhyming words. The major figures of speech used here include - Personification, Alliteration and Inversion. The sensory organs are personified and have been given the human qualities.

3) Special Features: The poem is a gentle criticism of the judicial system.

4) Message of the poem: In many occasions the claim of possession is made by those who don't deserve it at all and the deserving one is deprived of what is his.

5) Title and the poet: William Copper was one of the most popular 18th century English poets and his poems deal with Nature and everyday life. The title contains the sensory organs and they symbolize human behaviour.

6) Poetic style: The poem is in stanza of four lines each. The first line rhymes with the third while the second line rhymes with the fourth. The rhyme scheme of the stanza is a b a b

7) My opinion about the poem: It's funny poem. It makes me laugh. It is a satire on the courtroom drama. I like it very much. I enjoyed it.
