3.4 Statement of Purpose
A statement of purpose, also referred to as an ‘SOP’ is a reflection of one's personality that one portrays in front of the admission committee for getting enrolled in universities abroad and nowadays in some of the Indian universities. It is a chance of impressing the committee by presenting one's profile strongly through a short essay that describes the personality traits, which are not covered in the academic documents.
Guidelines to write an SOP:
1) First Paragraph: Personal experience / Inspiration.
2) Second Paragraph: Academic Background and Professional Experience.
3) Third Paragraph: Career Goals (Things to achieve during study).
4) Fourth Paragraph: Closing (Desire and readiness towards Joining the chosen course).

It is rightly said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." From childhood, I am interested in English literature. I like to read the novel, drama, poetry and short stories of famous English writers. These books guide me and become my friends. I saw the teaching of my English teacher Mr. B. G. Badgujar. What a great knowledge he has about English literature! His teaching of English giving literary references always mesmerized me.
In my school and junior college, I always won prizes for literary writing. I worked as editor of college magazine. I made the magazine a unique and popular book during my period. I took participation in language and literature quiz and won the first prize. I desire to learn more literature to expand my outlook and perception. I want to do some specific research in the field of literature. I want to search new ideas and techniques in this field. I want to develop my career as a critic and researcher in literature. I want to achieve this ability working hard. I need to get good guidance for it.

When I was a child, I had to visit a hospital to provide lunch box to my grandfather who was admitted there due to illness. During my trips to the hospital, the nurses with whom I interacted proved that 'Service to humanity is service to God'. They would not only care for the patients but also were the first to respond to an emergency. They would be available to provide comfort and understanding to patient's families. The above attitudes of the nurses inspired me to pursue a career in nursing. I hope to fulfill my dream by applying for the nursing program in your deemed college.
Throughout my high school, I took up a part time job in a neighborhood clinic, where I was attracted to human anatomy and how the drugs interact with human body. I was a science student and my biology class experience proved to be beneficial to a great extent. Over the years I realized that nurses play an instrumental role in ensuring that the patients become stable. Through their care and diligence they monitor every patient on daily basis. All the above given facts helped me to fix my desire to become a nurse and serve the community.
During my tenure in nursing school, I hope to develop my skills and knowledge that I need to become a registered nurse in near future. This course will help me to learn advance topic in human psychology, public health and pathology, which will allow me to serve my patients better. My training will also allow me to practice my skills in real hospital settings similar to those I’ll be countering in my career. Therefore getting admission to your college will train me into a seasoned and trained profession in the field of nursing.
